Print media is by far the oldest form
of media technology we have. It has been
around since man was first able to put thoughts into written word. It covers a wide range of forms. Some of these forms include things like
newspapers, magazines, brochures, memos, letters, etc. In fact, the ability to use print media was
so important that are forefathers insisted that the right to the freedom of
press be included in the Bill of Rights.
It was through print media with documents such as the Federalist Papers and
Common Sense by Thomas Paine, that this nation even came to be. It is an extremely powerful and effective
form of communication.
Even with newer forms of media technology gaining prestige and
popularity, print media remains the backbone.
It has found its way into digital media as well. Digital media is "digitized content
(text, graphics, audio, and video) that can be transmitted over internet or
computer networks" (Business Dictionary,
2012). Magazines and newspapers
have found their way to the internet.
Those once traditional forms of print media have jumped on the
technological bandwagon as well.
Although information can easily be accessed via the internet, print media
is still preferred by many people.
Other forms of technology have been created to cater to print media. These include things like the Kindle, tablets, and EBooks. By making print media digital, a larger audience is able to receive the information provided by news, and other organizations. However, while the digital age increases, some of us still prefer a simple, old fashioned, turn the page, book.
